Euro Blokart Championships launched on Cornish soil

The first European Blokart Championships to be held on British soil took place at Gwithian in November. Around 80 competitors from the continent converged on the beach over a windy weekend for a series of speed and slalom races. Local man Howard Smith became European Champion (see Cornish Heroes) ahead of favourite Nicolas Boel of Belgium. Race Officer Graham Bobin said: “It's a great result for this young sport as well as Cornwall. We've proved Hayle as a world class venue for this sport, and now we have the new British and European Champion.”
