Winter Park Cornwall

It may be summer but winter sports enthusiasts are looking forward to a new ski slope that may open in Cornwall next year. Winter Park Cornwall could become an exciting new fixture on the local adventure scene if the project gets the green light from planning authorities and financial backers.

The year-round visitor attraction will be built at Trevarthian Farm at Kestle Mill, near Newquay, and feature four slopes made with state-of-the-art SnowFlex materials.

The facility will be perfect for surfers and kite boarders to practice their ski or snowboard skills during spells without surf or wind. There will be a 180-metre long main slope and 60 metre beginners’ slope, as well as an innovative half pipe, moguls and a freeride play park with jumps, slides, banks and kickers.

Cornwall is thought to be the only UK county without a ski slope, so Winter Park will be a welcome addition to local leisure facilities. The project’s manager Chris O’Connell said: “Cornwall has an abundance of untapped talent in people who participate in ‘balance’ sports such as surfing and skateboarding. It’s definitely time that they, and visitors to the county, are able to add skiing and snowboarding to their regular sporting activities.”
