The Rip Curl Boardmasters returns to Fistral Beach this week (4-10 August) for a huge festival of surfing, skating, music and entertainment.

The Surf contest is an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 5-Star event, is a crucial stop on this year's European leg and will feature some of the world’s best surfers.

Some 150 male surfers, including a few ASP Top 45 members, will be on fire to clinch the crown and valuable 2000 ratings' points towards a possible 2009 ASP World Tour qualification.

Ben Bourgeois (USA), Rip Curl Boardmasters defending Champion and current ASP World Tour surfer, will not be able to defend his title because of a busy schedule and a new champion will be crowned.

Big names in this year's contest include Nathan Hedge, Jarrad Howse, Corey Ziems and previous Boardmasters champion David Weare, plus Cornwall surfing's big hopes Russell Winter, Alan Stokes and Oli Adams.
