Newquay’s Llewellyn Whittaker cleaned up on the Relentless Triple Crown, following impressive victories in Tynemouth and Portrush.Whittaker was the stand-out surfer at these two events. Even though he lost the third event in Thurso to Fergal Smith, he’d done enough to secure enough points to win the first ever British Triple Crown of surfing, sponsored by Relentless in association with Wavelength. The Newquay surfer’s talent shone through at the Circle One Portrush Open in Northern Ireland. The event saw the best waves of the tour so far with some great surfing throughout the competition. Llewellyn managed to keep his nerve and stay ahead of up-and-coming Irish surfer Fergal Smith to win the event and to take the Triple Crown title ahead of a field of great competitors from all over the UK and Ireland. All surfers on the 2007 UK Pro Surf Tour are now expecting a gripping end to the tour at the final event – the Gul Newquay Open. The overall tour ratings are now very close. Sam Lamiroy has led most of the year, but Llewellyn has come back from injury with style and is hungry for the tour title that has so far eluded him in his career. |
