Cornwall’s pro surfers are looking forward to a new season and hope to continue their success on the UK Pro Surf Tour, which was last year won by locally based Sam Lamiroy. In 2008 the UK Pro Surf Tour will be bigger and better. Events will be held throughout the UK at locations from Thurso East in Scotland to Newquay in Cornwall. The tour will raise competition to a higher level pushing the surfers’ skills to the limit. The tour will raise not just the profile of the individual surfers but also the venues for the events, such as Fistral beach in Cornwall and Croyde where the first event of the 2008 series will be held. With the inclusion of Men’s, Women’s, Pro Junior and Grommet divisions the tour will help encourage the development of competitive surfing across the UK This year sees the formation of the UK Pro Surf Association, registered through company house, to provide a non-profit, democratic organisation to govern the tour. Chairman of UK Pro Surf Association, John Owen said: “Forming this association is an important step to help the growth of the tour. Surfers will now have the opportunity to help control the direction the tour will take.” |
