Surfer Ben Skinner in actionBen Skinner was crowned European longboard champion following a near perfect performance at Estoril in Portugal at the end of October

The Newquay based surfer scored a perfect 10 on his way to victory in the final contest of the first ever European Longboard Tour.

The historic win was yet another feather in the cap of the professional longboader who has out-classed most of his opponents at home and abroad with his powerful and progressive, yet fluid style.

It's been quite a year for the surfer who took silver at the Surfing World Games in California, then went on to win the British Longboard Union tour.

In Portugal, Skindog charged through the early rounds of the competition and by the semis of the contest had amassed enough points to take the tour title.

Boosted by this news, the surfer smashed his way right to the final where he met Alexis Deniel, Antoine Delpero and fellow Brit Elliot Dudley.

But there was no stopping Skinner who blew the field apart on one of his first waves. He took off on a bomb and smashed two vertical off the lips, one amazing roundhouse cutback, then went cruising for a little time on the nose, back again for a huge frontside reo. He kept on surfing on this endless wave all the way to the beach.

The wave was amazingly long and perfectly surfed. The champion was given the perfect score for this perfect ride: 10 out of possible 10.

There was no catching Skinner and the longboarder won took the contest and tour title from his competitors.
