Jetski, Ben Granata and Ben SkinnerEuropean Longboard Champion Ben Skinner and Ben Granata, co-founder of the British Tow Surf Association, will chase some of the biggest waves in Cornwall and beyond with the help of a new top-of-the-range jetski.

The pair secured the use of the high-powered rescue craft thanks to a three-year sponsorship deal with Truro-based Skinners Brewery – owned by Ben’s parents Steve and Sarah.

The jetski will allow the two Bens to catch big waves at locations in Cornwall and elsewhere in the UK and Europe.

Tow surfing is a hybrid sport emerging from traditional surfing, but with the additional use of a driver on a jetski or personal watercraft to slingshot the surfer into peaking waves, often too big to be caught by paddle power alone.

“Tow surfing gives new meaning to ‘spectacular’ and is absolutely terrific to watch,” said brewery MD Steve Skinner.  “It’s becoming well established in the likes of Hawaii but is still in its infancy over here. When the surfers get it right on the big wave it makes a truly awesome spectacle.”

He added:  “We have always supported our son in his passion for surfing and we are very pleased now to be able to help both Bens in this more specialised area. The jetski will also be a good ambassador for Cornwall with the Cornish flag down its side!”
