Cornish sailor strikes gold
The Comeback Kid
Double Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie made a magnificent return to Olympic class sailing in China in August when he took Gold in a test event for Beijing 2008.
Despite a year-long absence from Finn racing – because of his America’s Cup commitments – the Cornish bred sailor won nine and came second in two races to finish the event well ahead of his closest challengers.
“I’d only done five days’ training in a whole year, so I wasn’t really sure where I’d stand. Pleasantly surprised is probably the best way to put it. I’m pleased with the result and am looking forward to competing again next year.”
