British surfing success benefits from Cornwall’s surfing talent

It’s been a phenomenal winter for British surfing, thanks largely to strong performances by Cornish riders. The British Surf Team achieved its goal of reaching the top ten at the World Surfing Games by placing ninth out of 33 countries at the contest held at Huntington Beach, California. Newquay based Alan Stokes and Sam Lamiroy surfed their way into the quarter finals, but it was longboarder Ben Skinner’s silver medal that cemented the team’s best ever result at the competition. Meanwhile, Bude’s Reubin Ash clinched the European junior title (see Cornish Heroes), closely followed by Newquay’s Tom Butler in third, helping the English team to fourth place at the European Junior Championships behind France, Portugal and Spain.
