Cornish Cycle Tours go Electric

This great new idea comes from Cornish Cycle Tours, the first and only company in Cornwall to offer the electric bikes which are perfect for mixed ability groups or those looking to improve their fitness.
Launched six years ago by Cornishman Lanyon Rowe, Cornish Cycle Tours provide safe and enjoyable cycling holidays across a range of scenic routes that vary in distance, length and difficulty.
Lanyon Rowe said: “We want to make Cornwall by bike accessible for everyone no matter how fit or experienced a cyclist they are. These new electric bikes are perfect for those looking to set a more leisurely pace for their holiday, or for groups with varying fitness levels.”
The Escape Hybrid 2 bikes are the latest model from Giant and use batteries to give the rider extra pedal power. The bikes have three different levels of assistance: eco, normal and sport, depending on how much exertion is required, and make almost no sound.
The electric motor is powered by a battery at the rear of the bicycle and is activated upon pedaling. The rechargeable batteries can be topped up at points along the tours or at a power source each evening.
A fully charged battery can provide between 18 miles (30km) to 50 miles (80km) of power-assisted cycling depending on factors such as hill climbs, wind resistance and the mode the bike is in. Cyclists also have the option to turn the electric assist off and use it as a conventional cycle.
Lanyon continues: “Our routes take in the Duchy’s most beautiful areas from coastal villages to the county’s mining heritage, and these bikes will allow people to travel further and see more of what Cornwall has to offer.
“We like to provide our customers with a carefully planned package and this is just another part of the service. Now our visitors can focus on enjoying their surroundings rather than worrying about tiring themselves out.”
Cornish Cycle Tours offer fully supported and carefully planned holidays which include all accommodation, luggage transfers, detailed route maps and step by step directions for each day.
Prices start at £275 per person for a three day tour, with an additional price of £30 per day for electric bike hire. Manual bikes can also be hired at a rate of £15 per day.
