Cornwall’s Kitesurfing event a success

Strong winds and sunshine greeted competitors for the opening round of the BKSA kitesurfing Grand Prix held at Watergate Bay. Kite of all shapes, sizes and colours filled the blue skies above the beach as competitors put on an awesome display of kitesurfing.

Standards were consistently high and the battle for prizes was intense. Riders from Cornwall put in a strong performance on home turf against the UK’s best kitesurfers from as far afield as Lancashire, Scotland and North Wales.

Stand-outs included Jackie Powell from Padstow who entered her first kitesurf competition and took first place in the Pro Women contest ahead of Steph Bridge from Exmouth. St Austell’s Denzil Williams had to make do with second place behind Lewis Cranthern from Worthing in the Pro Men division. We should also congratulate Chris Stevens from Perranporth who was the second placed amateur at the event.
