Cornish gig team win Gig Rowing World Championships
Over 500 rowers descended on the Isles of Scilly for the Gig Rowing World Championships over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. They represented teams from as far afield as Dorset, Wales and the Netherlands in this unique sport that hails from Cornwall.
In some of the toughest races ever witnessed at this annual event, Caradon charged ahead to win the men’s contest for the fourth consecutive year. Behind them were Roseland, a second Caradon team, Mounts Bay and Zennor. Falmouth ladies proved they were still top of their game with a nail-biting win ahead of Mounts Bay, Caradon, Charlestown and Roseland.
