NARS Beach Lifeguard Award Comes To Newquay
The courses will be run from the head quarters in Newquay, each course will run over six days, five days will be training and the last day will be the examination day by SLSA examiners. The courses will be run by Zoey Cotton who is a qualified NARS Instructor.
Candidates will be trained in First Aid, Basic Life Support, Beach Lifeguard theory and ocean rescue techniques, so a sound knowledge of the sea would be a great advantage for anyone wishing to apply to do the course.
Candidates should also have a good level of fitness and be able to swim 400 metre in a swimming pool in under 7 minutes 30 seconds and complete a 200 metre run in under 40 seconds. Although NARS Surf Coach Lifesaver awards will run alongside the course for those who just simply are doing the course for their BSA Surf Coach award. This will mean the candidate then has 9 minutes 30 seconds to do the 400 metre swim and 1 minute to do the 200 metre run.
The course will cost £245 and this will include the complete cost of the course including a NARS manual. Accommodation in Newquay can also be arranged for those looking to travel down to do the course. The NARS Beach Lifeguard Award is valid for 3 years from the date of examination.
