PaddleFree launches its two week kayak adventure

Paddle_freeThe PaddleFree 2010 initiative is setting off on a two week kayak adventure around the Cornish coast to help raise money for two worthy groups.

Benefitting from PaddleFree 2010 activities are British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), a charity who rescue the sea life that finds itself stranded on our coastline, and the Isles of Scilly Veterinary Support Group, a community group dedicated to helping provide the island’s animals with the same standard of veterinary equipment and care taken for granted on the mainland.

Paddlefree’s main kayaker and organiser, Sara Roberts said, ‘PaddleFree was born out of an initiative set up to raise awareness and money for rescue services, environmental and animal welfare campaigns through water based activities’. She adds, ‘It has long ago stopped being an individual effort, and the PaddleFree team has been expanding steadily. Each person has brought a new perspective and dimension to the project!’

Sara will be attempting to paddle her sea kayak from Saltash to Penzance along the South Cornish coast, then around the Isles of Scilly in June 2010. She will be accompanied all the way by their project manager, ‘Skipper Dan’ in a support vessel and they’ll have 2 weeks in which to complete the journey.

The team hopes to be blessed by good weather and finish the journey in plenty of time. They are aiming to complete the South Coast within the first week, have 2 days rest, and then complete the Island portion of the journey in the second week.
