Return of the Fal River Autumn Walking Festival
Following the success of the first last autumn, preparations for the 2012 event are now underway.
Sponsored by The Nare, this year’s Fal River Autumn Walking Festival will take place from Friday 19th October ending Sunday 4th November, with the support of Fal River, South West Coast Paths, the RNLI, the National Trust, AONB and Falmouth BID
Throughout the 17-day festival, over 60 guided and self-guided walks will feature around the beautiful Fal River, from the Roseland peninsula in the east, to Helford in the west and as far inland as Truro. Walk leaders from a range of local organisations – from professional walking companies such as walkitcornwall and the National Trust through to walk sponsors – will be hosting a walk in their grounds.
Festival Director, Toby Budd is delighted by the support that this event has received: “In 2011 we launched the walking festival with the objective of bringing more visitors into Cornwall during the autumn months, as well as enabling locals to explore and learn more about this beautiful part of the county. We have been overwhelmed with support for 2012 and are keen to get other organisations involved.”
Toby continued, “We are extremely grateful to The Nare for being our title sponsor again, as well as the support that we have received once more from South West Coast Paths, RNLI, National Trust, AONB, Falmouth BID and walkitcornwall – as well as our media partners the West Briton, Cornwall Today and Radio Cornwall. This event is a real team effort that will benefit the county.”
Organisers are encouraging a wide range of organisations to submit guided walks, including charities who are interested in benefitting from the funds that they might raise from entry fees.
They are also looking for people who would like to share their love and knowledge of the area through leading a walk – with training on leading walks to be provided through a free training day in September.
For anyone interested in submitting a guided walk, there is no cost and the walk will be promoted through the festival’s programme, website, social media, press releases and various other marketing being co-ordinated by Eventy – Marketing & PR.
The self-guided walks will be enjoyed throughout the festival as well as throughout the year – designed to be undertaken at any time by downloading the walking instructions and directions from the festival website www.falriver.co.uk/walkingfestival
