New climbing wall for Newquay
Climbers in mid-Cornwall have a new place to train thanks to a newly installed climbing wall at Newquay Sports Centre. The facility has been designed for climbers by climbers and covers the entire width of one end of the sports hall. A number of routes lead up the wall via a series of hand-holds, cracks and hand-jams. There is also a low-level bouldering section for fitness training and junior classes.
The wall has become the unofficial home of Newquay Climbing Club. It is available for casual sessions for experienced climbers, while newcomers can join taster classes and beginner courses organised by the Sports Centre. Tim Webb, centre manager, commented: “There’s nothing of this standard in the area so it’s nice to be able to bring this wall to Newquay.”
