Cornwall’s World Champ Mountain Boarders

Mountain Boarders from Cornwall continue to dominate the world mountain boarding scene with a number of local shredders taking major titles this year.

The biggest breakthrough was made by Jos Kirkman from Calstock who was crowned the female world freestyle champion at the Fat Face Night Air 2008 this summer.

The 17-year-old dominated the contest with a dazzling display of tricks, turns and aerials at the event held at the Bugsboarding centre in Gloucester.

Jos is part of a hardcore group of mountain boarders from the Gunnislake area, which includes older brother Tom Kirkman, who is a three times former world champion, and younger brother Mick Kirkman who took the under 14s world championship at the Night Air event.

Their friend Joel Treviling is also making tracks on the world stage with a number of strong performances at contests this year. The 14-year-old came second in the under 18s and 15th in the men’s world championships in Gloucester. He then went on to win the Boardercross event in the final round of the All Terrain Boarding Association tour at Chester.
