Indo Board Guru to Perform at Beach

Hunter_JoslinThe American inventor of the Indo Board will visit Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay on Monday (26 July) to lead a special, free workshop on the use of the popular balance training device.

Hunter Joslin, Indo Board founder, is visiting Cornwall to meet Lee Stanbury, who uses the board for the Surf Fitness courses he runs at the beach.

During the workshop, which is free for anyone to join, the US surfer and board sports fanatic will showcase his skills and offer tips and advice on the use of the Indo Board for health and fitness.

Hunter started surfing in the Sixties and took up skateboarding in the Seventies. His use of a rudimentary balance board in those days, allowed him to progress to higher standard of surfing and skating much quicker than his friends.

The Indo Board is a wooden board, like an oversized skateboard deck, which balances on a rubber roller. It is designed to build core strength, balance and skill.

Popular with Cornish surfers as a fun way to practice board skills, the Indo Board is proven to enhance surfing ability and agility. Local advocates include European Longboard Champion Ben Skinner, who uses it for competitive surf training.

But it’s not just surfers who can benefit from the one-off workshop on Monday. The Indo Board guru will show how the board can be used as a cross training tool for a variety of sports that require agility and balance coordination.

Known to friends and colleagues as the “Balance Sensei”, “Balance Whisperer” and even “Indo Man,” Hunter Joslin is a legend of stability training and a real character from the golden era of US surf and skate culture.

Lee Stanbury, author of The Complete Guide to Surf Fitness and fitness course leader at Lusty Glaze Beach, commented: “I’ve used the Indo Board as a personal training tool for years. It’s what my professional surfer clients use for training when the surf is flat. I’m a big fan of the board and the tricks and techniques developed by Hunter. I can’t wait to see him in action.”

The Indo Board Workshop with Hunter Joslin starts on Monday at 10.30am and will run until about 1.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join the free workshop on the beach for part or all of the session, or just turn up to meet the Indo Board guru or watch him in action.
