Top UK Surfers confirmed for first Flowriding Championships in Cornwall
The entrant list for the first UK Professional Surfers Flowriding Championships has been announced with some of the country’s finest surfing talent set to test their skills on the recently-opened standing wave at Retallack Resort & Spa near Wadebridge on Thursday 17th June.
With a £2000 prize pot up for grabs, the men’s roster includes the following: Russell Winter, Johnny Fryer, Robert Blythe, Joshua Piper, Sam Lamiroy, Jayce Robinson, Shaun Skilton, Danny Wells, Tom Butler, Matt Capel, Tom Pope, Nathan Philips, Reubyn Ash, Leon Mansfield, Andrew Griffin, Lyndon Wake, Joss Ash, Lee Bartlett, Danny Wells and Martin Black.
Meanwhile Beth Mason, Gabi Rowe, Anastacia Swallow and Joanne Dennision will be representing the women, with up-and-coming talents Lewis Clinton, Harry Timson, Lucy Campbell and Harry DeRoth also taking part.
The competition is the brainchild of the UKPSA who are working with the Flowrider® staff at Retallack’s new Loop complex to establish judging criteria for the unique sport, which draws on the skills sets of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and skateboarding. The event on June 17th is open to the public (free of charge) and will also include live music, a full bar, a BBQ, stalls, and the chance to win Flowrider® passes to be used at a later date.
“It’s going to be a real spectacle,” says Dave Reed of the UKPSA. “This is something we’ve never tried before and I’m sure there are going to be plenty of thrills and spills for everyone who comes along. Obviously Flowriding is different to surfing so it will be a real challenge to the competitors and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. The best thing is that all the action will be right there in front of us and the waves are guaranteed!”
For the event, which starts at 2pm, Retallack is laying on a special accommodation package. Prices start at £25 per person per night based on eight sharing a 4 bedroom 5-star lodge. 2 and 3 bedroom lodges are also available and all of the lodges boast sun decks, bbqs, state of the art kitchens and spacious interiors. Guests can also make the most of the bar and restaurant and enjoy access to the health club which includes a gym, indoor pool, sauna, and steam room. For more information: www.retallackresort.co.uk
