Walker Completes Coast Path
Moved into action by the death of his best friend, Roger Gillett, originally from Millbrook, Cornwall, fulfilled a long time dream to walk the coast of Cornwall . The inspiration for his unique fundraising effort was personal; his best friend Graham Sotheran was 55 years when he died from an aggressive brain tumour.
After arriving from Bermuda, where he now resides, Roger set to his epic journey on 29th April and completed his solo 296 mile journey in just 16 days. Walking 20 miles per day, Roger ended his journey on the Cornwall side of the Tamar River and celebrated his achievement on the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth where he was greeted by his family and friends.
To bring his journey full circle, half of the £16,539 raised to date will be donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading breast cancer charity and half will go to The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. In the UK, the funds raised will help Breakthrough continue vital research, campaign and education work, including the work carried out at its dedicated breast cancer research centre and its three new research units opening across the UK.
There’s still time to make a donation, please visit www.breakthrough.org.uk/rogerswalk and choose Roger’s fundraising walk. You can also read Roger’s diary of the walk by visiting www.chc.bm
