Ben Ainslie Strikes Gold
British sailor Ben Ainslie won his third consecutive gold medal at the Beijing Olympics this summer.
The sailor, who learnt to sail in Cornwall, clinched his gold medal trio by winning the Finn class sailing regatta at Qingdao in China.
Ainslie was unstoppable form once again, confirming his place as Britain’s best ever Olympic sailor and the major force in the world beating Team GBR sailing squad.
Having already won gold at the Athens and Sydney Olympics, and a silver in Atlanta, Aislie was the man to beat going into the Beijing Olympics. But he held his form to defeat his closest rival Zach Railey from the United States by a comfortable margin.
Ainslie has had an amazing run of success and in January secured an unprecedented fifth world title at the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne.
It’s been an amazing journey from his early years sailing at Restronguet in Cornwall. The sailing hero now has his sights set on the London Olympics in 2012.
