Get Active for Cornwall Triathlon Series

Tempus has announced its Cornwall Triathlon Series for 2016 including the Jubilee Pool in Penzance which has been added as a new venue for this year. The series consists of six triathlons across the county between April and September, making it the biggest triathlon series in Cornwall and one of the largest in the South West of England. In addition, Tempus is also holding its Mini-Triathlon Series for children aged 8 to 16 years.

The Tempus Cornwall Triathlon Series is in its 5th year. The triathlons are a popular part of the Cornish sporting calendar, attracting entries both locally and from across the UK. The triathlons consist of a swim, cycle and a run. They make the most of the beautiful Cornish landscape and the swims take place in either open water or a pool. The Jubilee sea water pool will make a unique addition to the series. Last year’s series included 1,129 competitive starts with 76 competitors finishing the series. The triathlons take place across the length and breadth of the county. The first is in Bodmin (24 April), followed by Wadebridge (22 May), Helston (5 June), Falmouth (26 June), Liskeard (10 July) and then finally Penzance (11 September).

The Tempus Mini-Triathlon Series is in its 3rd year and had over 1,200 competitive starts last year. It consists of four events, each with pool swims and traffic-free bike and run routes. The mini triathlons are being held in Bodmin (23 April), Wadebridge (21 May), Helston (4 June) and Liskeard (2 July).

Tempus is the Cornish charitable trust which, as well as holding sporting events throughout the year, also runs 14 leisure centres across Cornwall. Commenting on the announcement of the new triathlon series, Ceri Harvey, Community Leisure Events Manager at Tempus, said:

“Our triathlon series goes from strength to strength and this year looks set to be better than ever. We are really excited about the addition of the newly refurbished Jubilee Pool in Penzance to the series, it will provide the opportunity for competitors to swim in sea water but with the protection of the pool environment. Whether an elite competitor or just starting out, there is something for everyone. If you’ve ever fancied entering a triathlon then this is your chance to have a go.”
