Surfers Make Epic Paddle Against Plastic Pollution

A group of Cornish surfers successfully completed the epic paddle from Porthcurno to the Isles of Scilly to raise awareness of the problems of plastic pollution in the oceans.

It took the group 11 hours to travel the 32 miles across the relatively calm Celtic Sea on stand up paddle boards on 8th July 2019.

They undertook the adventure challenge to raise awareness and funds for the Surfers Against Sewage’s campaign to turn the tide on plastic pollution.

The paddlers included professional surfers Alan Stokes, Ben Skinner, Jayce Robinson and Emily Currie.

Alan Stokes said: “Wow, what a day! It was the hardest endurance challenge I have ever experienced with north winds and tidal currents making going slow. A highlight for me was surfing the wind swells with a pod of dolphins who were playing and swimming just feet below me, confirming just why I wanted to make this journey.”
