Kayak world record set!

kayakingA new world record time of 3hrs 41mins has been set by Glen Eldridge and Guy Blackford for kayaking from Sennen Cove to the Isles of Scilly.
Guy Blackford, from Newquay and Glen Eldridge, a lecturer from Cornwall College, the duo travelled at speeds of up to 26kmp when going down large waves.
Conditions were not perfect on the day leaving the pair paddling against the wind during their challenge.
Glen, who had previously done the journey on a surf board said: “We hoped to complete the journey between 3 and 3 and a half hours, but the wind made it really hard work.”
The duo still managed to beat the previous world record by 39 minutes. They added that he was hoping to try again next year and wanted other kayakers to race against.
The record breakers raised money for Handstand, a charity which needs funds to buy prosthetic limbs for 19-month-old Marshall Janson.
Glen wanted to thank everyone involved in the day, especially Tim Light, from King Harry Ferry, for letting them use the Sea Quest rib, photographer Paul Howard and Cornwall College for letting him have the day off.
